List Of Things Banned and Discouraged In Zimbabwe Because Of The Coronavirus Pandemic

Here’s a list of things that have been banned in Zimbabwe following the global Coronavirus pandemic.

The ban was announced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on the afternoon of 17 March 2020. At the time of the ban, no Coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Zimbabwe.

The president declared the virus a National Disaster.

The following things are banned:

  • Independence Day celebrations
    Independence commemorations are held on and around the 18th of April annually.
  • Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF).  This is Zimbabwe’s largest trade and business expo and it’s usually held in April.
  • Public gatherings of more than 100 people.
  • All pending International Sporting Events.

The following things are discouraged

  • Unnecessary travel by government outside the country. (This was already in effect so was a repeat)
  • Non-essential travel from affected countries. “travellers from high-risk countries are encouraged to postpone their travel arrangements to Zimbabwe for the next 30 days starting 20th of March
  • Zimbabweans discouraged from travelling to, through and from high-risk countries

The president has said that schools will remain open until the end of the school term which is in 2 weeks.

Zimbabwe’s neighbouring countries South Africa and Botswana have all confirmed cases of the Coronavirus with SA topping 50 cases since 16 March.
