Money Changers Robbed At Gun Point Lose US $12 000
Two Harare money changers reportedly lost US $12 000 to three armed robbers last Thursday.
This was revealed by ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi who said:
Two men who wanted to engage in illegal foreign currency dealings were robbed at gunpoint by three men in a red Honda Fit on July 2. The robbers’ vehicle blocked the Toyota Allion vehicle that was being used by illegal money changers along Masotsha Ndlovu Way, Waterfalls, Harare.
The robbers pointed a pistol at the complainants, demanding cash. The suspects then searched the vehicle and got away with US$12 000
The police also warned members of the public to receive money from authorized dealers as they said backyard money changers have sprouted during the lockdown and people risk getting robbed as they solicit these backyard money dealers’ services.
