ZESA Tariffs Have Gone Up by 200%
Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) has increased tariffs by 200% with immediate effect.
The new tariffs have gone up from approximately US$ 0.02 to US $ 0.12 per kWh which is a huge blow for the domestic customers who are struggling with high prices of basic commodities.
This increase came as a result of an application which the power utility Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority( ZERA) issued seeking adjustments of electricity tariffs as the previous charges were no longer sustainable.
Those who were using low power of about 200 kWh per month will be paying ZWL, 157 from ZWL 48 they used to pay which is a hoping 227% increase.
In a statement ZETDC's Holding Company, ZESA Holdings said the increase was inevitable because the previous charges had been eroded following the tumbling local currency.
“The current tariff 38,61c/kWh had been severely eroded due to the movement of macroeconomic fundamentals,” said in the statement issued below.
