Acrimony as ZBC Announce TV & Radio License Fees
The public has criticised the annual license fees published by the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) labelling them as “unfair and unjustified.”
A television or radio license is a payment required in Zimbabwe for the reception of television or radio broadcasts or the possession of a receiving set.

The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Services Act (Chapter 12:06) and the Broadcasting (Listeners’ Licenses) regulations mandate ZBC to issue and collect payment for radio and television licenses.
The public the domestic radio and TV license of $100 was extortionate. Others were expressed their discontent at having to part with $40 (urban) and $20 (rural) for a radio license. They highlighted that the majority of urban people no longer view ZBC due to the broadcaster's poor quality content.

Another citizen cited that the law was colonial as it worked under the then Smith regime but it was no longer necessary and so should just be scrapped. A livid Avenues resident said it was unfair to keep funding an organisation that was not viable and was not serving her interests.
The broadcaster released the annual fees for ZBC licenses:
- Television license for business premises – US$200
- Company car radio license – US$200
- Vehicle radio and TV license – US$200
- Business premises radio license – US$100
- Home radio and TV license -US$100
- Private car radio license – US$92
- Urban home radio license – US$40
- Rural home radio license – US$20
The government is amending the Broadcasting Services Act to make it illegal for ZINARA to sell licenses and for insurance companies to sell policies to motorists without ZBC radio licenses.
