Teachers Turning The Classroom Into a Tuckshop to Beat The Economic Challenges
Teachers are now selling sweets and biscuits to pupils in a bid to compensate for the poor salaries they are earning.
Responding to a directive from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to stop selling sweets to pupils and students, teachers declared they would continue come up with initiatives to sustain themselves and their families.
Progressive Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe(PTUZ) president Takavafira Zhou acknowledged he received the government directive.
However defiant PTUZ members have vowed to defy the directive.
“We are selling sweets and biscuits to pupils as part of efforts to atone for our poor salaries,” said a PTUZ official.
