ZIM Records Fifth Coronavirus Death
Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs Larry Mavima on Saturday confirmed that Zimbabwe has recorded its fifth coronavirus death after tests undertaken on a woman who died on Friday in Gweru showed that she was positive of the virus.
The minister confirmed the bad news and said:
It is with a heavy heart that I announce the death of a woman from Gweru who is said to have been Covid 19 positive. Dr Reginald Mhene (Provincial Medical Director) called me last night (Friday) giving me the update. He told me that tests done on the woman after her death showed that she was Covid-19 positive. This brings to five the number of Covid-19 related deaths in the country and the first in the province
This is the first Covid-19 death in Midlands province.
The Ministry of Health and Child Care reported on Friday 19 June 2020 that the country had 479 known infections.
