ZIM Records Over 1 000 COVID-19 Cases

Zimbabwe has recorded over 1000 coronavirus cases as the Ministry of Health and Child Care announced 49 new COVID-19 cases and one death on Monday, 13, July 2020.

The death occurred in the Midlands province and takes the death toll to 19. The person was confirmed positive after death.

The cumulative number of confirmed cases is now 1 034. The Ministry said in a statement:

Forty-nine (49) cases tested positive for COVID-19 today. These include returnees from South Africa (28) and 21 local cases who are isolated.

Seven (7) of the local cases are contacts of known confirmed cases, investigations are underway to establish the source of infection for the remaining 14.

Today we regret to report 1 death at the community level. The death occurred in the Midlands Province and was detected during routine post-mortem as part of our COVID-19 surveillance. We await the full post-mortem report of the direct cause of death.

Today 1707 RDT screening tests and 412 PCR diagnostic tests were done. The cumulative number of tests done to date is 91103 (53 755 RDT and 37 328 PCR).

Matabeleland South Province reported (15) recoveries.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak on 20 March 2020, the total number of confirmed cases is 1034; recovered 343, active cases 673 and 19 deaths.
