A mother snatched her daughter’s husband while she was pregnant.
Ethel Mupoperi, a woman from Harare, is facing accusations from her only child, Munyaradzi, of “snatching” her husband and building a life with him in their rural hometown.
The conflict made its way to the Harare Civil Court, where the mother-daughter duo battled over family ties, property claims, and accusations of mistreatment.

Munyaradzi described her mother’s actions as a profound act of treachery, as she accused her of stealing her husband while was pregnant with his child.
Munyaradzi revealed how her own mother and her former husband left her behind, and moved to the rural area where they started a new life together.
This new relationship has created an unusual dynamic, with Munyaradzi describing their status as “co-wives” to the same man.
The dispute has extended beyond relationships to property, with Munyaradzi asserting that the house she started building—on a piece of land her husband had initially purchased—is being claimed by her mother.

She expressed her anger, stating: “Since she snatched my man, we are now co-wives, and everything has double ownership of. She has to suffer the same way l suffered when she took my husband away. Ndizvo zvavakada saka titori pachipari.”
Ethel, on the other hand, painted a picture of hardship, claiming that her daughter’s anger has resulted in continuous emotional and verbal abuse.
She told the court that Munyaradzi has since demanded that she leave her matrimonial home, asserting that she is the rightful heir to the property.
According to Ethel, her daughter’s actions have made her life increasingly difficult, leading her to seek legal protection. She remarked,
“My daughter asked me to leave my matrimonial home, claiming that she is the heir to the house. She has been hurling insults at me, accusing me of snatching her husband.”
Magistrate Meenal Naratom presided over the hearing, ultimately granting Ethel’s request for a peace order against Munyaradzi.
