UZ Students To Endure Reduced Meal Portions
The ongoing economic meltdown in the country has led to high prices for food items which have caught up with the University Of Zimbabwe as the institution has resorted to reducing students' meal portions as a coping mechanism.
The University's department of Accommodation and catering services has made drastic adjustments to the student's menu due to the increased prices for food items as a result of the current foreign exchange rate crisis.
The most ridiculous of these changes will see 40 students sharing one litre of milk!
According to a circular from the University dated Thursday 28 September and pictured below, the students will now be getting the following in their diets;
Chicken | 1 bird to 12 students |
Beef | 1kg/12 students (1 piece per student) |
Beans | 1kg/16 students |
Rice | to be eaten twice/week |
Milk | One litre 40 students |
Bread | 3 Slices/person |
These changes are a bit better though compared to the meal plan released by Gweru Polytechnic which is totally vegetarian. You can see the meal plan by clicking here.
Under normal circumstances, students should eat adequate portions of food after spending hours studying. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, they will have to make do with 1 small piece of beef/chicken and beans.
