Government Denounce Social Media Claims That Schools Will Reopen On 1 June
The permanent secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Ndavaningi Nick Mangwana has advised members of the public to ignore an audio recording that has been circulating on WhatsApp claiming that schools will reopen on the 1st of June.
In a statement on his social media channel, Mangwana said the message is a hoax as consultations on the issue are still ongoing.
He added that the actual dates for the reopening of all schools will be announced in due course. The statement read:
There is audio circulating in several WhatsApp Groups saying that schools will open on the 1st of June 2020. That is incorrect. Consultations are still ongoing and actual dates for all schools will be announced in due course.
Meanwhile, seven teachers’ unions yesterday petitioned Primary and Secondary Education minister Cain Mathema to defer the re-opening of schools until such a time when the coronavirus threat has been contained and the government can guarantee the safety of teachers and pupils.
