A 19-year-old man lost his life after he was fatally stabbed while attempting to intervene in a fight between two individuals vying over the affections of a 15-year-old girl.
According to the National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Mthokozisi Sibanda was fatally stabbed in the chest using an Okapi knife.
The assailant responsible for the stabbing was a 17-year-old individual who was engaged in a physical altercation with Gift Moyo, 20, over a girl.
The juvenile offender is currently being charged with murder. Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi has verified the details of the case. Nyathi said:
Police in Fort Rixon are investigating a case of murder which occurred on Sunday at Wessels Village 1.
The victim had intervened to stop a fight between the suspect and Gift Moyo who were fighting over a girlfriend aged 15.
A murder suspect was surrendered to the police by his family after learning that he had allegedly killed another person during a bar altercation.
Dennis Magweta, aged 35 and residing in Hatcliffe, was brought before the court yesterday, facing a murder charge.
Magweta was remanded in custody until July 19, awaiting the completion of investigations.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that on Friday, Magweta and the individual who has since passed away were drinking beer at GGM Sports Bar located in Hatcliffe Shopping Centre.
A dispute escalated between the two, leading Magweta to strike the now deceased twice on the face.
As a result, the man suffered two severe facial lacerations, causing substantial bleeding. Magweta proceeded to kick the man repeatedly in the face before vanishing into the darkness.
The victim reported the incident to the Hatcliffe Police Post, following which he was transported to Parirenyatwa Hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
