A 14-year-old girl and her two friends, aged 15 and 16, were kidnapped by four women who forced them to sleep with various men for profit.
To ensure business success, the girls were given muthi to apply to their private parts.
The fed-up teenager managed to steal a phone and contacted her mum for rescue while the captors were absent. The girl informed her mum of their location, leading to her rescue from a shack in Benoni, Ekurhuleni.
Disturbed by her daughter's ordeal, the mum reported the incident to the police, and the case was taken up by the Benoni Family Violence, Child Protection Services, and Sexual Offences Unit. The investigation quickly progressed, and another victim managed to escape.
Sergeant Angeline Mfolo played a crucial role in locating other victims, obtaining their statements, and arresting the four suspects. The case was escalated to the Pretoria High Court.

The accused, Mokulunga Ndozo Msibande (38), Nokubonga Londi Khanyile (25), Nomusa Gugu Magasela (37), and Pinto Torela (28), were found guilty and each sentenced to life for human trafficking and rape.
The families of the three girls said they were pleased with the sentence and hope this will send a strong message to other human traffickers.
One mother told the media: “I'm heartbroken by what happened to my daughter and will never forgive those women for destroying my child.”

She added that her daughter is still struggling but receiving counselling. The victims had first met the accused in 2020 at a tavern before the lockdown.
