MDC Alliance Secretary General Charlton Hwende has issued a statement claiming Presidency of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

The statement's agenda was to reaffirm  the party's statement that they do not recognize President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the President of the country.

This development follows another statement issued by Party Spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere insinuating that they will not boycott the supplementary budget to be presented by Fianace Minister Mthuli Ncube on Thursday even if President Mnangagwa attends.

Mahere had said: The MDC Alliance notes that Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa may be present at this event. We maintain that Mr Mnangagwa is illegitimate and the total collapse of the economy under his imposed tenure is evidence of this. However, given the grave humanitarian stalemate Zimbabwe finds itself in, it would be imprudent for us to let his presence quash the voice of the people at this critical time. The centre is failing to hold.

Read the statement by Hwende below:

The MDC Alliance Congress and National Council resolutions on the illegitimacy of Emmerson Mnangagwa remains unchanged and as such continues to guide the conduct of all party organs including our Parliament caucus.

In addition, the National Council re-engagement resolution on Parliament post the unlawful recalls initiated by our erstwhile colleagues led by Douglas Mwonzora working in cohorts with Zanu PF remains in force.

Our MPs and the party leadership in Parliament will therefore be guided by these 4 resolutions and continue not to recognise an illegitimate Mnangagwa who lost the  2018 election to President Nelson Chamisa.
