A Cresta Mall ‘mermaid’ almost drowned while swimming in an aquatic tank.

Gabriela Green-Thompson, a mermaid performer at Cresta Shopping Centre in Johannesburg survived death by a whisker after her tail got stuck in the aquatic tank.

Gabriela Green-Thompson nearly drowned while entertaining the public at the Cresta Aquarium over the weekend.

Her tail got caught in the coral, and she had to remove it quickly and swim to the top of the tank to survive.

In her account after surviving the incident, she disclosed that as air escaped from her lungs, she couldn’t free her trapped tail.

Consequently, she ended up removing her mermaid tail so that she could swim up to the surface.

As you can see, my tail got caught in the coral, and due to the air releasing out of my lungs, I could not retrieve it. And therefore, I did a quick release.

She added that professional mermaids should be trained to quickly exit their tails.

Additionally, she urged everyone to prioritize safe swimming practices during this festive season.

Remember Water Has its Dangers Every Professional Mermaid has to know how to eject out of their tails in case of an emergency.

It’s unfortunate that it spoilt the magic in the moment, but it proves to be an important teaching opportunity.
