Two friends are dead after they were allegedly stabbed at a nightclub in Budiriro 1, Harare, after stepping on one man while drinking beer.
The incident occurred over the weekend at Club Royal Night Club around midnight on Saturday, 6 July 2024. The deceased are Alec Ruvhere, aged 22, and Tadiwanashe Murerwa, aged 20.
According to Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, the suspect is Cogitate Ganyiwa, who works at Jumbo Inn in Mazowe. Ganyiwa was at the nightclub with his girlfriend, Tadiwanashe Zivani, aged 21 when the altercation occurred.
Inspector Chakanza reported that on July 6, at around 12:15 a.m., Ganyiwa and his girlfriend were drinking beer at the club, where Ruvhere and Murerwa were also present. Trouble began when Murerwa accidentally stepped on Ganyiwa’s foot, leading to a confrontation.

Murerwa then grabbed Ganyiwa by the collar. Ruvhere tried to intervene in the melee, and Ganyiwa stabbed him in the lower diaphragm with an Okapi knife. Ruvhere collapsed and was rushed to Sally Mugabe Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Ganyiwa also stabbed Murerwa during the altercation. He tried to flee the scene but collapsed outside the nightclub. Patrons later found his body lying lifeless, face down. The police were notified, and a report was made at ZRP Budiriro. The CID Homicide then got to the scene for investigations.

Both Ruvhere and Murerwa sustained deep cuts below the diaphragm. Their bodies were taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital for post-mortem examinations as investigations into the incident continue.
