Police in Greater Masaka, Uganda have arrested a 34-year-old woman, Stella Namawanjje, on charges of torturing a 10-month-old boy left in her care.
The disturbing incident has sparked widespread outrage after graphic footage circulated on social media. Authorities reported the case under Reference 71/01/11/2024.
According to police reports, Oliver Mbabazi is a 28-year-old resident of Binyonyi A Cell in the Nyendo-Mukungwe Division.
She entrusted her son, David Yolam Ssemakula, to Namawanjje. Mbabazi reportedly left her son in Namawanjjeās care for two days while she was away.
Details of the allegations reveal that Namawanjje allegedly fed the infant faeces and urine and recorded the abuse on her mobile phone.
The recorded footage shows Namawanjje taking off all her clothes whilst the baby is sitting on the floor crying.
She then starts pooping on the babyās head, whilst urinating in a cup. After that, she spreads the faeces all over the babyās body and makes him eat some of it. She takes the cup with urine and makes the baby to drink it.

The footage eventually came into the possession of one of her friends, who shared it online, leading to public outcry.
āThe video quickly gained attention and prompted action,ā stated SP Kasirye, the Police Spokesperson for Greater Masaka.
The incident was reported to the police by AIP Auma Eunice from the Child and Family Protection Unit in Nyendo.
This led to an investigation that resulted in Namawanjjeās arrest and the recovery of the phone used to record the abuse.
Kasirye confirmed that a case file has been opened and emphasized the seriousness of the matter, stating their commitment to justice for the young victim.

Namawanjje remains in custody as inquiries continue, with authorities urging the public to report any suspected child abuse.
