Shocking UZ Fees Statement For 2020
Parents with their children at the University of Zimbabwe have been left crying foul after the institution increased tuition fees.
The Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education stipulated that State Universities were not permitted to charge more than $5000.
The universities were also banned from using part of the fees to pay lecturers as their salaries are paid by the government. However, it seems the directive has not been observed with Institutions going against the government directive.
A leaked Fees statement for a student studying a degree in Audiology shows how The UZ is demanding $8000,60% more than what the government gazetted.
Zimbabwe’s inflation is spiraling out of control with most salaries barely enough to cover the essentials. For example, a teacher is earning $1000, which translates to less than USD50. With kids at the University of Zimbabwe, A teacher would need to save up for 8 months to pay tuition and at the same time keep meeting other expenses. According to reports, Chinhoyi University has increased fees to $10000.
With the discrepancies in salaries and fees, Many students are likely to drop out unless the government intervenes.
