Mafikizolo Still Performing in Zimbabwe Despite Social Media’s Outcry to Boycott Event
While Mafikizolo was set for a sensational return in Zimbabwe by being part of and performing at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) on 6 September, the xenophobic attacks that recently started in South Africa, almost seem to be a hindrance towards their progress.
The group has been pivotal in strengthening its support base, gaining popularity and fame in Zimbabwe. It is one of the foreign groups that has risen to the occasion whenever they have performed in Zimbabwe and is expected to lend in the country this coming Friday.
With an outcry to boycott the event by the Zimbabwean social media which emanated from the fact that the South African pair will be coming to perform at a time where their counter patriots are reportedly attacking Zimbabweans across the Limpopo, the group is likely to face little if not great retaliation from the depraved Zimbabweans.
However, organizers of the the Mafikizolo’s “Back In Town Concert” have confirmed that the show will proceed despite social media’s outcry to boycott the event. They have strongly urged Zimbabwean citizens to bear with the South African Group and support them in spreading a message of love across Africa, as they also strongly condemn the crude behaviour that their fellow South Africans are portraying.
The xenophobic attacks that have been going on since last week have seen many Zimbabweans ( Zimbabwean foreigners Living in South Africa) becoming victims of circumstances in a foreign land for the past few days and has led to some of them dying and others sustaining severe injuries from the inhuman actions being perpetrated by the crude South Africans.
There is definitely no assurance that the gig which was expected to attract thousands of revellers as has been the case with the group’s previous shows, is going to be like those memorable shows.
