Police Officer Accuses Boss Of Sleeping With Her Husband
Assistant Inspector Happiness Lunga is accusing a top female police officer in Bulawayo of sleeping with her husband, ruining her 16-year marriage.
Assistant Commissioner Sithulisiwe Mthimkhulu who grabbed headlines in 2018 after she sued her ex-lover and former police Commissioner-General Dr Augustine Chihuri for maintenance is now being sued by her junior, Assistant Inspector Lunga for disturbing her marriage by allegedly sleeping with her husband Amkela Nyoni.
Nyoni is reportedly a managing director of Genstorm Global Supplies which specializes in mining equipment. In her court papers for a peace order filed at the Bulawayo Civil Court, Lunga stated that she clashed with Mthimkhulu over allegations that the top cop was having an extra-marital relationship with her husband.
According to Lunga, so horrible and disrespectful was Mthimkhulu that at one time she visited her matrimonial house in Nketa 9 suburb and struck her with a bolt cutter before she pepper-sprayed her in the eyes. It seems when she approached the court to apply for a peace order against Mthimkhulu, Lunga had nowhere to turn for help after her superiors allegedly failed to assist her.
“I am employed by the Ministry of Home Affairs as a police officer and I am currently based at Nkulumane Police Station. I hold the rank of Assistant Inspector. I am married to Amkela Nyoni and have been married to him for 16 years and we have two minor children.
“Sometime in August 2019 I discovered that the respondent (Sithulisiwe Mthimkhulu) was having an affair with my husband and I sent her a message telling her that Amkela Nyoni was married to me and that as such she should back off.
“She responded through a WhatsApp message saying that she knows that my husband was married and that she only needed him for sex as and when necessary.
“In the same WhatsApp message, she indicated that she too was married and that it was not her intention to wrestle my husband away from me,” Lunga's papers read in part.
She said from the time she asked her boss to stop having an affair with her husband she turned violent and started harassing her by sending vulgar messages via WhatsApp.
“On 11 March 2020 at around 10pm the respondent came to my house purporting to be looking for my husband. I got out and I asked her not to disturb our peace. She became violent threatening to assault me. I stood my ground and she eventually left.
“On 7 May 2020 at around 10am respondent came to my residence with a car and she parked by our gate. When she saw that no one was opening for her she sent someone to go and get a bolt cutter. She used the bolt cutter to try to force the gate open but she failed.
“My maid Cecillia Ncube, Cst Murambinda and I kept on pushing the gate and in the process, she hit me on my right thumb with the bolt cutter. I sustained some injuries. She thereafter took a pepper spray which she sprayed into my eyes. My eyes started itching but I kept on pushing the gate,” she stated.
Lunga said she reported the matter at Tshabalala Police Station under case number CR28/ 05/ 2020 and it was still pending.
She further said when her brother Mxolisi Lunga confronted Mthimkhulu after she came to her house, she produced a pistol and threatened him. She said Mthimkhulu was later restrained and disarmed by her driver, one Sergeant Chimbunde.
She added: “On Saturday, 9 May 2020, I gathered information that the respondent got to our construction site (in Parklands) looking for me.
I now fear even going there. I submit that the respondent's violent conduct is a source of serious discomfort to me and as such I have reached a point where I fear for my safety.
“I accordingly implore this honourable court to order the respondent to stop threatening me or being abusive to me. She must also stop using vulgar language towards me. Further she must be ordered never to come to my residence.”
The matter, which was supposed to be heard on Friday last week before Bulawayo magistrate Nomasiko Ndlovu, was struck off the roll by consent of both parties who seemed to have agreed on an out of court settlement.
