Five-year-old girl, Sibongile Charehwa from a village under Chirf Chireya in Gokwe was allegedly fatally assaulted to death by her two uncles, aged 10 and 14 after she messed her panties
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko confirmed the murder of Sibongile Charehwa.
“We are investigating a case of murder of the deceased Sibongile Charehwa who was assaulted until she died by two minors whom she was left in custody of.
“The two accused persons took turns to assault her with a stick all over the body until she became unconscious.
“Noticing that the deceased was unconscious, they informed their neighbour Sarah Mhende who then went to check,” he said.
Inspector Goko said upon arrival, Mhende discovered that Charehwa had already died.
“Mhende went to the scene intending to assist the now deceased, but she then discovered that she had died.
She alerted other members of the community about the incident and the matter was reported to the police leading to the duo’s arrest while the deceased’s body was ferried to a mortuary,” said Inspector Goko.
Inspector Goko urged members of public to desist from leaving children on their own at home.
“We appeal to the members of the public to always leave their children in the custody of older people so that such incidents can be avoided,” he said.
