The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority, ZESA has reportedly started rolling out power cuts as there were reports of power cuts from a number of suburbs in Harare.

The development has also been attributed to the winter-wheat farming which the power utility has given priority to ensure enhanced wheat production in the country.

The power utility had last implemented loadshedding before the coronavirus induced lockdown was imposed on the country in March.

Load shedding cases were reported in some parts of the country which include Kuwadzana, Mbare, and warren Park on Friday.

There is however no official communication from the power utility to explain the recent power cuts.

The crisis is attributed to ageing equipment at Hwange Power Station and shrinking water levels at Kariba Dam, issues that have seen the country generating less than required power.

The crisis has also been blamed on corruption by government officials which has stalled the refurbishment of the country’s power stations and has also seen the Gwanda Solar Power Project by Intratek fronted by Wicknell Chivcayo failing to take off since 2015.
