Chinhoyi University Ordered To Close As Lecturer Tests Positive For COVID-19
Government has told the Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) to close the institution amid reports that one of the lecturers at the university tested positive for coronavirus.
The directive was announced in a media brief by the minister of Information, Publicity and broadcasting services senator Monica Mutsvangwa who said Zimbabwe cannot afford to be complacent in the face of the pandemic. She said:
Today the National Taskforce on COVID19 met and received reports from its Subcommittees and also deliberated on the following matters:
Additionally, following the recorded infection at the Chinhoyi University of Technology and in line with the guidelines for the re-opening of Universities and Colleges, The Taskforce resolved that the said institution undertake all necessary and sensible steps to close.
The Taskforce also received an update on the implementation of the World Health Organization Guidelines for Discharge of clients from isolation which has been implemented and this has decongested isolation and quarantine facilities.
The government recently authorised tertiary institutions to reopen for last year students.
