Gweru Town Clerk Loses Job
Ms Elizabeth Gwatipedza the Gweru Town Clerk has been fired after being found guilty of insubordination and incompetence.
Gwatipedza has been on suspension since October 2019 as the case was being investigated.
A disciplinary committee was set up to investigate the case and it was led by Mr Melusi Moyo of Dube-Banda, Nzarayapera legal practitioners who presided over the case.
The committee found her guilty of wilful disobedience to a lawful order and gross inefficiency at the close of the disciplinary hearing.
She was accused of refusing to follow orders from the Mayor Councilor Josiah Makombe among other charges which include negligence of duty, incompetence and mismanagement.
Ms Gwatipedza through her legal representation had argued that there is no specific provision in the Urban Councils Act which obliged her to take orders from the Mayor as she was supposed to act through council resolutions.
The development was confirmed by Gweru City Council spokesperson, Vimbai Changwaramuse, who however could not give more details on Gwatipedza’s case.
