Zanu PF divided
The ruling Zanu PF party has become divided over one Sybeth Musengezi. The man in question who will attend court today on 03rd October 2022 after launching a legal challenge of President Emerson Mnangagwa's rise to power in Zanu PF had his house torched in Sandton near Westgate in Harare over the weekend. With his court challenge, the Zanu PF congress that was supposed to be held late October this same year now hangs in the balance.
With the challenge, Musengezi has become a marked man. A few weeks ago, he complained about unregistered vehicles frequenting his neighbourhood. He believed that security agents were employing scare tactics in order to silence him. Citizens have however distanced themselves from the unfolding story saying that this was factionalism rearing it's ugly head again.

Others opined that torching of the house was synonymous with Zanu PF's violent ways of dealing with descent. In uncharacteristic fashion, former G40 stalwarts Saviour Kasukuwere and Jonathan Moyo were quick to condemn the violence which prompted many to conclude that Sybeth Musengezi is G40 member doing Kasukuwere and Moyo's bidding.

Political activist Makomborero Haruzivishe was of the opinion that the attack on Musengezi's home was an inside job and as usual, no one would get arrested.

Police confirmed the incident and said they were carrying out investigations.

Law experts are of the opinion that the Musengezi challenge will be a tough test for both the courts and Zanu PF. The case mirrors the Khupe vs Chamisa case over Leadership of the MDC after the death of founder Morgan Tsvangirai. Whilst the courts found it easy to reverse Nelson Chamisa's ascendancy in the MDC case, it will be suicidal for the presiding judicial officer to rule against President Emerson Mnangagwa's ascendancy. In the event that the courts in a moment of rare bravery have ordered the Zanu PF party to return to 2017 structures, it does not look like Zanu PF will abide by the ruling.
The Musengezi case therefore points to troubled times of illegalities and instability within the party.
