A video of a female officer slapping schoolkids without masks is trending on social media. The video is said to have been shot at a school in Kwekwe.

In the video, another male police officer is seen recording the whole incident. It’s not clear why the police officers were at the school in the first place.

The violent conduct by the police officer also violates the recently amended Education Act which states that corporal punishment should not be meted out to schoolchildren ‘under any circumstances’.

After watching the video, journalist Hopewell Chin’ono blamed the situation on the government. He said the looting of funds meant for Co-Vid19 support by Zanu Pf government officials resulted in the state failing to provide masks to school children.

He then went on to donate 5000 masks to schools on a first-come-first-served basis. Below are two of his tweets and the video of the incident.

This police-woman was slapping all school kids without masks at Kwekwe High. These kids come from poor homes due economic decadence caused by looting & plunder of Zim’s resources. This is the result of corruption. I have 5000 masks, schools without masks inbox. 1st come basis.

This is the video evidence of @PoliceZimbabwe officer assaulting school kids at Kwekwe High School for not wearing Covid-19 masks. The State hasn’t provided masks bcoz millions meant for Covid-19 were LOOTED by ZANUPF government officials in Draxgate & other scams! This is bad
