Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s estranged wife, Marry Mubaiwa Chiwenga can finally heave a sigh of relief after she was granted bail by the High Court.

Marry spent close to three weeks wallowing in the female section of Harare ‘s notorious Chikurubi Maximum Prison after being denied bail by the Magistrates’ court.

High Court judge Justice Pisirayi Kwenda granted her $50 000 bail after indefinitely reserving judgement on the matter last week.

Marry had filed two applications: an appeal against denial of bail by a magistrate Chrispen Mbewere three weeks back and another, a bail application. In her bail application, Marry argued that she was not a flight risk. Marry was represented by Advocate Sylvester Hashiti instructed by Taona Nyamakaro of Mtetwa & Nyambirai Legal Practitioners.

This comes barely weeks after Marry’s father Keni Mubaiwa volunteered to deposit title deeds to his properties at No.102 Seke Road as part of security and part of the bail conditions to ensure Marry’s availability for trial.

Marry is going through a nasty divorce from the Vice President which has resulted in stunning allegations of drug abuse and addiction being made against the model as Chiwenga battles to secure custody of the couple’s 3 minor children.  Marry was arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC)  allegedly at the orders of Chiwenga.

The embattled former model is facing numerous allegations which include,  six counts of illegally externalizing funds well worth over one million United States Dollars, five for money laundering and one for fraud where she allegedly forged a marriage certificate.

The charges allege that she illegally solemnized a secret marriage presided over by Acting Chief Magistrate Munamato Mutevedzi without Chiwenga’s consent. She is also facing charges of attempting to kill the Vice President when he was critically ill in South Africa.
