Zimbabwean awaiting trial in South Africa pulled off a daring escape from the Lephalale Police Station on Tuesday.
According to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the spokesperson for the provincial police, the runaway prisoner, aged 32, goes by the name of Anthony Makhusha.
Previously facing a fraud charge, Makhusha now finds himself in even hotter water as he’s slapped with an additional charge for breaking free from legal custody. Ledwaba said:
It is alleged that he was in the Community Service Centre at about 1pm when he escaped.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are forming part of the investigation.
Furthermore, the police have initiated a separate case involving his escape from lawful custody.
Authorities in Limpopo are urging locals not to take matters into their own hands by attempting to capture the escapee themselves.
