Botswana-based Zimbos Murder Man over 1 500 Pula

Nine Zimbabwean nationals have been formally charged with murder and illegal entry into Botswana after they allegedly beat a fellow Zimbabwean man, Tavonanashe Mariga, to death in a horrifying attack.

The accused recorded the entire incident, which included stomping on Mariga’s testicles, leading to his death.

The accused, all male farm workers at Matebele Farms, are Crispen Gasura, 33, Desmond Dube, 23, Takesure Fraser, 38, Abbisai Gasura, 29, Justice Mafukidze, 25, Clayton Chiwa, 35, Spencer Gasura, 35, Calvin Mafukidze, 27, and Alouis Gasura, 23.

They appeared before the Broadhurst Magistrates’ Court last week and were remanded in custody.

In a shocking display of violence, they tied him up, beat him with sticks, and stomped on his testicles until he lost consciousness.

“The accused persons ganged up on the deceased, beating him mercilessly and recording the entire ordeal. The deceased was certified dead upon arrival at the hospital,” said a police spokesperson.

The graphic nature of the attack has left the community in shock. Prosecutor Mmoloki Selofera emphasised the brutality of the crime, stating:

“The accused persons shouldn’t be granted bail as this is a relatively new matter. We are still waiting for the post-mortem results, forensic affidavit, and the photo album.”

During the court proceedings, the accused did not contest the state’s submissions. Magistrate Goratile Moremi-Ramakoloi ruled in favour of the prosecution, ordering the nine men to remain in custody until the next court date on February 13, 2025.

“The nine accused persons are further remanded in custody until the next mention date,” she declared.
