According to her, when Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services first approached her, they pitched it as an opportunity to promote tourism and present a fresh angle on South Africa’s northern neighbour.

“When I was asked to go to Zimbabwe, there was one thing I was told; tourism.

To showcase Zimbabwe to the entire world or whatever world exists…

To show a different narrative of Zimbabwe that there is beauty, invite people to come and spend money in Zimbabwe, show that Zimbabwe is powerful and incredible and in its own special ways.

She said they were initially taken around tourist attractions like Victoria Falls and Zambezi, only learning about the State House visit at the last minute.

What I will say is I did not know that I was going to be at the State House and I did not know I was going to be in a situation that was going to be politically charged.

Like we were told we were going to serve a tourism moment. There was even a flea market trip, Victoria Falls, Zambezi.

The actress also spoke about how much she was paid for visiting Zimbabwe.

I would like to repeat that I was not paid a million Rand to go to Zimbabwe.

People who are saying I was paid a million Rand, I was paid by a political party; money was raised to take us there to pay for things.

It was raised at some event here in Johannesburg not in Zimbabwe.

If behind closed doors something else happened that’s not what I was told.
