Grade 7 Pupils to Stay in School Despite the Expenses Involved
The Zimbabwean government has cancelled the traditional early school holiday for Grade Seven students after they complete their national examinations.
The Director of Communications and Advocacy at the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Taungana Ndoro, officially announced this new development on Tuesday.

According to Ndoro, Grade Seven students should remain in school and utilize this period to enhance their readiness for secondary education.
Ndoro clarified that the time after the last Grade Seven exam is not a school holiday because all Grade Seven pupils should attend classes until the end of the third term.
However, this decision has been met with mixed reactions from parents and guardians. Some parents have expressed concern over the financial burden of continuing to make school runs and paying transport money for their children during this period.
They argue that this is an unnecessary expense, especially since they are already preparing to pay fees for their children's Form 1 in high school the following year.

It is important to note that according to the Ministry of Education, the primary emphasis following the examinations will be on providing guidance and counselling to pupils as they prepare to transition to secondary school.
To ensure strict compliance with this new directive, all Provincial Education Directors (PEDs) have been instructed to reinforce their monitoring, supervision, and inspection structures.
In conclusion, while some parents may find it inconvenient to continue making school runs and paying transport money for their children during this period, it is important for Grade Seven students to remain in school and utilize this time to enhance their readiness for secondary education.
The government's decision to cancel the early holiday is aimed at ensuring that students are well-prepared for the next phase of their education journey.
