He pleaded guilty to the charge and was remanded to 31 October for sentencing.

When asked why he committed the offence, a remorseful Nkomo apologised to the magistrate and said that he had spoken to his wife.

The court heard that on 25 October at around 7pm, Sihle Sibanda (38), Nkomo’s wife, was using her cellphone when her husband arrived home.

Nkomo then snatched Sibanda’s cellphone and tried to call a specific number, but it went unanswered. This enraged him.

He then struck Sibanda with the cellphone on the left cheek, causing her to bleed profusely.
