ANC Accepts Results as Zuma's MK Demands Re-vote
President Cyril Ramaphosa said as the leaders of political parties, who occupy positions of responsibility in society, they have heard the voices of the people and must respect their wishes.
Ramaphosa said: “Over the past 30 years, we have strived together to build a country which everyone black and white, men and women, young and old can call home. This election has reaffirmed building a South Africa for all remains the defining mission of our nation.”
He said it was important to note that the seats they hold are not for politicians but represent the ordinary South Africans.
As we take up our seats in Parliament and in the provincial legislatures. Let us appreciate that the seats we occupy do not belong to us.
They belong to the people. Whatever authority, whatever power, we are entrusted with must be exercised to advance the interests of the people.

The results show that:
- ANC won 159 seats a decrease of 71 from 230.
- DA won 87 seats an increase of 4 from 83
- MK won 58 seats
- EFF won 39 seats a decrease of 5 from 44.
- IFP won 17 seats
- PA got 9 seats
- VF PLUS got 6 seats
- Actions SA for 6 seats
However, he uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) party and other opposition parties in South Africa have rejected the results.
Muzi Ntshingila, MK elections head, said he had received complaints from party agents that slips compiled by presiding officers were not in line with what was being presented and recorded by the party.
Primarily, we are saying that we do not recognise these results, we object them, we are calling for an immediate manual counting because this has infringed on the rights of South Africans to decide the government of their choice.
Jacob Zuma had earlier warned the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) against announcing the results on Sunday until all objections had been dealt with. The IEC went on to announce the results. The MK party and other opposition parties have since taken the matter to court.
