The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has moved to set the record straight regarding a statement that had been circulating, purportedly issued by their spokesperson, Assistant Paul Nyathi.
Zambia-Zimbabwe Diplomatic Row Deepens
The statement had claimed the arrest of 50 Namibian nationals in Zimbabwe military camps for alleged subversive activities.
In a statement, the ZRP dismissed the social media post and purported media story as false. They explained that upon reviewing the original statement, they reached out to Police Commanders and Provinces to verify the information. Their investigations revealed that no such arrests had actually occurred in the country.
Part of the police statement reads:

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police dismisses a social media post and purported media story attributed to the Police alleging that 50 Namibians have been arrested in Zimbabwe military camps for subversive activities. Checks with relevant Police Commanders and Provinces have revealed that no such occurrence has been noted in the country. The fake and false statement is dismissed with the contempt it deserves. The purported press statement is crafted in a manner not conforming to Zimbabwe Republic Police standards or format.”
