The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has finally released the chilling details of a tragic event that shook Mount Darwin on 9 August 2024.
A soldier, Corporal Henry Ncube, went on a deadly rampage, shooting three people dead before taking his own life.
According to a police memo shared by ZimNow News, at around 8 PM, Ncube and fellow soldiers entered Chikuni Bottle Store in Rushinga, dressed in military uniform and armed with AK-47 rifles. Their presence reportedly unsettled the patrons.
By midnight, the situation took a fatal turn.
At approximately 12:30 AM on 10 August, Corporal Ncube shot Justice Makiwa, a 33-year-old man from Mukwatsa village, in the head following a heated argument outside Goto Bottle Store. The confrontation escalated quickly, leading to the fatal shooting.
Victor Mufaro Dzaoma, a 38-year-old CIO operative, tried to intervene but was shot in the abdomen by Corporal Ncube. The scene turned chaotic as more shots were fired.
Inspector Munemo, who was on patrol with the group, was also hit in the hand. He was rushed to Rushinga Clinic and later discharged.

The violence didn’t stop there. Corporal Ncube fled to the army barracks where he lived. There, he found his girlfriend, 18-year-old Evernice Magwenzi, asleep. In a final act of violence, he shot her in the head before turning the gun on himself.
The police arrived at the scene shortly after the incidents were reported. The bodies of the victims were found in tragic conditions. Justice Makiwa’s body was lying beside his vehicle, covered in blood. Victor Mufaro Dzaoma was found seven metres away, with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
At the army barracks, Evernice Magwenzi was found dead on the bed, her body covered with a blanket. Corporal Ncube was lying beside her, his AK-47 rifle between his legs.

Police recovered AK-47 cartridges from both scenes. Investigations are ongoing.
