Teenager Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison For Stealing Bread

Teveraishe Munhangu 18-year-old student from Zvishavane has been charged and sentenced to 5 years in prison for stealing a loaf of bread.

Magistrate Wochiunga said the young man was being given a stiffer penalty as a corrective measure after the accused pleaded guilty to the allegation of theft saying that he stole bread because he was hungry.

“Thieves should be given stiffer penalties especially young people so that the won’t continue to commit crimes in future,” said Wochiunga.

The boy was sentenced to five years in prison but the sentence has been suspended on condition that he should not commit a similar crime in the next five years.
