The accident, which occurred late Tuesday night on the N1 highway, saw the bus lose control after driving over a roundabout at high speed, resulting in the fatal overturn.
The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety released a statement detailing the circumstances of the Mzansi Express bus accident.
“The bus drove over a roundabout at high speed, lost control, and overturned, killing and injuring its passengers in the process,” the department’s statement read.
Tragically, all the deceased in this incident were Zimbabwean nationals.
The frequency of these accidents has sparked intense debate and speculation on social media, particularly among South Africans.
Many are questioning the safety of Zimbabwe-bound buses and suggesting that these accidents may not be coincidental. Some have gone as far as to speculate that the accidents may be part of possible scams related to Road Accident Fund (RAF) claims.
South Africans are also expressing concern over the allocation of RAF funds, arguing that a significant portion is being directed towards foreigners involved in these accidents.
