Breaking News: Major Changes for Kombis in Zimbabwe
Harare, 3rd September 2024 – The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has announced a major policy change to improve road safety.
Starting today, the maximum distance kombis can travel on a single route has been slashed from 120 km to 60 km.
The written statement signed on the 2nd September 2024, by the Transport minister, Felix Mhona, stated that this move is part of a broader effort to reduce road accidents involving kombis. The Ministry believes that high-capacity buses are a better option for long-distance travel because they are more reliable, comfortable, and spacious.

– Safety First: Kombis must have speed limiting and monitoring devices installed. No devices, no route permits.
– Enforcement: Law enforcement officers will be cracking down on kombis picking up and dropping off passengers at non-designated points. Stick to the bus stops, folks.
– Existing Permits: Current route permits remain valid until they expire, but new permits will follow the 60 km rule.
The Ministry is urging everyone in the transport sector to be extra vigilant about road safety. Over-speeding, overloading, and using unroadworthy vehicles are serious offences and will not be tolerated.
