Hwange, Zimbabwe – A 19-year-old man from Matetsi has been acquitted of rape charges after a lack of evidence. Blessed Sibanda, who was accused of raping a 14-year-old girl, was found not guilty and released from custody.

The incident occurred on April 18, 2024, when the girl and her sister went missing for five days. Upon their return, the girl accused Sibanda of offering them shelter and raping her. However, the prosecution failed to prove the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.
Sibanda's attorney argued that the State's evidence was inconsistent and contradictory, as multiple witnesses provided conflicting testimonies. The court agreed and dismissed the charges against him.
