Munhumutapa Day: ED's Birthday Now a Holiday

Zimbabwe has officially added Munhumutapa Day to the 2025 calendar as a public holiday.

This new holiday, scheduled for the 15th of September, coincides with ED Mnangagwa’s birthday.

Munhumutapa Day was introduced during the President’s 82nd birthday celebration in 2024. The event, attended by over 30,000 people, marked the formal launch of the holiday.

The theme for the occasion was “Rooted in the Past, Drawing Towards a Bright Future: Empowering Youths for Nation Building and Vision 2030.”

Organised by the Zanu PF Youth League, the event highlighted the importance of youth empowerment in driving Zimbabwe’s future development.

In a dramatic twist within the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), self-proclaimed secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu has been given a taste of his own medicine after being suspended by the party’s acting president, Professor Welshman Ncube.

In a statement released on Thursday, CCC presidential spokesperson Mr Kurauone Chikwayi confirmed that Tshabangu had been suspended pending a disciplinary hearing for contravening the CCC party’s constitution.

Acting in terms of Article 9.1.2.3 of the CCC Constitution, the Acting President, Prof Welshman Ncube, has suspended Sengezo Tshabangu with immediate effect. This decision was made in light of Tshabangu’s actions, which were deemed to be in contravention of the party’s constitution. Tshabangu’s suspension is pending a disciplinary hearing, which will be conducted in accordance with the party’s internal processes,” the statement reads.
