The government has cleared the air on the on-going security barricade of the Harare Central Business District (CBD).

Information Ministry permanent secretary Nick Mangwana made an announcement on Twitter today saying there is absolutely nothing wrong with Tuesday’s security forces barricade of the Harare CBD as the forces are enforcing the country’s lockdown measures.

“Members of the security forces are just enforcing the Level two lockdown but people are allowed to get into town provided they are providing essential services and they meet all the conditionality of Level two,” said Mangwana.

Thousands of people including workers who were previously cleared to go to work were inconvenienced after being ordered to return home by police and soldiers manning roadblocks in most roads leading into the Harare city center.

According to reports, the security agents manning the roadblocks were only allowing nurses and few individuals employed under essential services to pass.

It is reported some employees working for large supermarket chains have also been inconvenienced.

Covid-19 cases hit over 200 in Zimbabwe as of Monday sending fresh fears the country’s struggling health institutions could soon be overwhelmed by locals requiring their services.
