High Court Judge Justice Edith Mushore Fired

Justice Edith Mushore of the Harare High Court has been fired by President Mnangagwa after the President ordered a tribunal established to look into her unexplained absence from work and handed over its recommendations.

Mushore who “disappeared” without official leave since June last year and reports said this happened after she is said to have granted bail to Hopewell Chin'ono.

Justice Mushore also ruled that Malaba had ceased to be Chief Justice, upon reaching the age of mandatory retirement. Malaba later appealed the judgement and won the case

President Emmerson Mnangagwa through proclamation 3 of 2022 appointed retired Judge justice Maphios Cheda Chairperson of the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs secretary Virginia Mabhiza to investigate in line with the Constitution section 187 which stipulates that judge may be removed from Office only for failure to perform well in his or her office due to mental or physical incapacity, gross incompetence and gross misconduct.

In comments over the issue, one follower of Zimeye on Twitter commented

“Is she not only missing from work? She can only be treated as a missing person if her whereabouts are unknown even by her family members. Kuti kumba ariko zvake nehama dzake dzichiziva paari then she can't be declared a missing person”

This shows people are greatly concerned about her whereabouts as she is said to have not been seen since 3 months ago.
