Medical Doctor Adroph Dube Collapses in Chicken Bus
A young medical doctor, Adroph Dube (37), passed away on Sunday night after collapsing in a chicken bus in Chivhu.
This unfortunate incident highlights the dire state of Zimbabwe's healthcare system. At independence, medical doctors traveled by air to Masvingo, Chiredzi, and even to Catholic mission hospitals like Mutero in Gutu.

However, the airstrips in some of these places are now defunct. In fact, all regular domestic flights except between Harare and Bulawayo have long ceased.
The health profession has decried the working conditions of its members, which are among the worst in the world.
This is not the first time that a medical doctor has lost their life due to the poor state of Zimbabwe's healthcare system. Last month, another medical doctor, Mthabisi Nembaware, was killed in Mutare after he had hitchhiked.
The situation is dire and requires immediate attention from the government.
The collapse of Zimbabwe's healthcare system can be attributed to several factors such as poor funding, corruption, shortage of health workers, lack of adequate vital medicines, poor referral systems, and dilapidated infrastructure.
The COVID-19 pandemic has only piled more pressure on Zimbabwe's crumbling healthcare system.
