Several Zimbos Die in Western Cape Bus Accident
Tragedy struck on Saturday evening as a bus travelling from Harare to Cape Town, South Africa, collided with a haulage truck, claiming the lives of at least 13 Zimbabweans and leaving 26 others hospitalized with severe injuries.
The accident happened just over a hundred kilometres from Cape Town, near Hex River Pass in Western Cape, along the N1 Highway.
The bus involved belonged to the Simplex Bus Company.
While the death toll currently stands at 13, concerns are mounting that the number may rise as some of the 26 injured individuals, who were rushed to Noodsentrum Hospital in the Western Cape, are badly injured.
According to reports from South African media, the crash occurred approximately 130 kilometres before reaching Cape Town.
Tragically, the bus driver lost his life at the scene as he attempted to jump out of the bus.
An online news organisation, SA Trucker, last night said:
“Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, where survivors were rushed to Worcester Hospital for urgent medical attention. The extent of their injuries varied, with some in critical condition, fighting for their lives. The cause of the accident is not known at the moment, however, authorities have since launched investigations into the tragic crash.”

Esther Mudambo, Zimbabwe’s consul general in Cape Town, assured that further details regarding the accident would be provided in due course.
Ricardo Mackenzie, the Provincial Minister of Mobility, extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving families and wished a swift recovery to the injured.
He commended the dedicated response teams for their tireless efforts under challenging conditions.
Dr Samson Nhanhanga, chairman of the Zimbabwe Passengers Transport Organisation, expressed profound sadness over the loss of lives and emphasized solidarity with the affected families.
40 Bulawayo-bound Zimbos Survive Makhado Accident
Mr Nhanhanga said:
“We mourn with the grieving families who lost mostly their breadwinners and, as an association, we have dispatched a team of people to South Africa who are helping the police to make sure that the injured get medical assistance.”
