DRC Coup Attempt: Just Another Day in a Banana Republic

So, there was a pretty wild attempt at a coup in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

A group of about 20 people, led by some exiled politician called Christian Malanga, tried to take over the presidential palace in Kinshasa.

They even raised the old Zaire flag, like, “Hey, we're back in business!” But, spoiler alert, it didn't quite go as planned.

Security forces swooped in and took them down, and Malanga ended up getting killed.

His 22-year-old son Marcel was part of the group too, and some random American bloke with a US passport (what was he doing there, mate?).

They were all like, “We want a new government!” but, yeah, that didn't happen.

DRC Coup: Just Another Day in a Banana Republic

The president was safely whisked away, and the whole thing was over pretty quickly. Oh, and there was a separate attack on some deputy prime minister's house, but he was chillin' and unharmed.

The attackers used drones and engaged in a firefight with security agents for over an hour, resulting in three deaths—one attacker and two security agents.

Some attackers took refuge inside the building, while others fled towards the river. Security forces cordoned off the area, and the situation remained chaotic for several hours.

Security forces quickly surrounded the Gombé neighbourhood, home to many diplomats, to control the situation.

The authorities worked diligently to restore order and ensure the safety of residents and officials.

All in all, a pretty eventful day in the DRC, but order has been restored, and all's well that ends well, right?
