Primary School Principal Found Hanging in his Office
Mathenjwa, the principal of Inkoningi Primary School in Ntambanana, just outside Empangeni in KwaZulu Natal, was discovered hanging in his office last Wednesday.
According to two school workers, Mathenjwa was found by an employee who had gone to clean his office. The scene left everyone stunned. “We were totally shocked when one of the workers came running and screaming from Mr. Mathenjwa's office,” said a witness. “They were crying hysterically, and we decided to investigate what was happening. When we got there, we found him hanging with his tie around his neck.”

Another witness added, “There was no letter or any explanation for why he made this tragic decision. His sudden death has left both staff and students in disbelief. We noticed rat poison near his plate, which we assume he consumed before taking his own life. It seems he wanted to ensure there was no chance of survival.”
Muzi Mahlambi, spokesperson for the KZN Department of Education, confirmed the incident, saying, “We can confirm that the school principal's body was found hanging in his office. Our hearts go out to the teachers, staff, and students during this difficult time.”

Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo of KZN SAPS stated, “Police in Ntambanana have opened an investigation following the discovery of a 44-year-old man's body at a certain school on July 11, 2024.”
