Zaka, Zimbabwe – Zanu PF supporters in Ward 19 of Zaka Central are facing allegations of stealing social welfare food aid by misrepresenting the number of children they have. Some even used deceased people's identity cards to obtain aid.
According to sources within the Zaka Police, the matter is now being investigated by the police law and order department in Masvingo.
Ward 19 Councilor Albert Mazvanya confirmed the incident but said he was unable to intervene as he is being sidelined as an opposition councilor. He stated that the distribution of social welfare aid is being handled by Zanu PF officials, who are using a woman's quota councillor to run affairs in his ward.
Mazvanya revealed that Zanu PF officials Farai Rupondo and Nyaradzo Chimbwari are compiling lists for social welfare aid and registering non-existent people to obtain food.

They are then allegedly sharing the food among themselves and their associates.
One example cited was Getrude Chakona, who used her deceased relative's ID to get food aid. She registered her husband as a beneficiary with five children, resulting in the family receiving two allocations.
Other suspects, Otilia Chisenga and Esther Munyeketi, are also accused of registering more children than they actually have. Chimbwari is alleged to have registered her domestic worker as a beneficiary despite living in the same household.

The matter came to light due to factional fights within Zanu PF in the district. Similar incidents of social welfare aid theft have also been reported in other areas of Zimbabwe, involving Zanu PF local leaders and social welfare staff.
