Sweet Scandal: Duo Sells Underweight Sugar Packets
In a plot twist sweeter than a candy bar, two Harare men found themselves in a sticky situation after being convicted for selling underweight sugar packets.
Enerst Gwetsai (30) from Glenview 1 and Forget Dzapasi from Glen Norah A were caught red-handed, or should we say, sugar-handed, by the Harare Magistrates Court.

The dynamic duo had been peddling what they claimed were 2kg packets of brown sugar.
However, when police detectives decided to play Sherlock and bought a case from a shop in Harare’s CBD, they discovered the packets were lighter than a featherweight boxer, weighing in at a mere 1.243kg to 1.33kg each. Talk about a sugar crash!
Initially sentenced to 12 months in the slammer, the pair had four months suspended for five years.

The remaining eight months were swapped for 210 hours of community service, giving them plenty of time to reflect on their sweet misdeeds.
To add a cherry on top, they were also fined a cool US$100 for selling the sugar without any invoices.
The State’s case was as clear as crystal sugar: the lads had been falsely labelling their product and selling it without any paperwork.
Subsequent investigations revealed that Enerst and Forget were the masterminds behind this sugar-coated scam.
When asked for invoices or delivery notes, they came up emptier than a sugar bowl after a tea party.
So next time you’re in Harare and fancy a cuppa, make sure to double-check your sugar packet – you never know what weighty surprises might be in store!
