Gweru Man Murders Two Year Old Daughter
In a horrific development, a Gweru man murdered his own 2-year-old daughter by drowning her in a dam following a heated custody dispute with his girlfriend.
The Chronicle reports that Lot Josiya (42) of Woodlands Park suburb in Gweru then hanged himself beside the dam after committing the cowardly and bastardly crime. The child was drowned at Insukamini Dam in Lower Gweru last Monday.
Acting Midlands provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende told the publication,
Police in Gweru are investigating two cases of sudden death where a man was found hanging from a tree after he allegedly drowned his two- year- old daughter in Insukamini Dam in Lower Gweru about 30 km from Gweru.
The horrific incident occurred on 18 November at Insukamini Dam in Lower Gweru at around 9.30 PM.
Assistant Inspector Mukwende went on to say that Josiya is reported to have visited his girlfriend in Mambo suburb on Monday where the two had a heated dispute
It is alleged that the two had a misunderstanding over the custody of their daughter, Prudence Josiya. It is further alleged that he forcibly took the child and drove off to an unknown destination.
Assistant Inspector Mukwende added that Josiya’s body was discovered by strangers the next day who promptly informed the police. The police later discovered the body of the toddler floating in the lake.
