Passport Office For Chitungwiza

The move was deliberated early last year by the Registrar-General Clement Masango to deal with a large number of people flocking to Harare to apply for travel documents. “I think it’s an honour to have such an office here in our town. This is a proud moment, especially for us to be chosen amongst the many towns in the country.
Chitungwiza Mayor, councillor Lovemore Maiko has welcomed the move by the registrar general’s office to bring the passport issuing office in Chitungwiza. “This will also help in improving our town in terms of business because there are a lot of activities that also come with such activities, hence a privilege we would not want to miss,” he said.
Chitungwiza is one of the oldest towns in Zimbabwe and was established as a dormitory town of Harare. “These (passport issuing office) are the kinds of facilities that give us a city status that we have always wanted. We can’t continue to live as a dormitory town.”
Chitungwiza registrar’s office has written to Chitungwiza Municipality on the premise to use as passport office. It was resolved thatZengeza 2 Municipal administration block be used as passport office.
“I humbly submit my request for good workmanship and relation between registrar general office and the council. It is in this regard that I seek authority in approving of in support to renovate and partition the block we use as our office this has been necessitated by the move to establish a passport issuing centre in Chitungwiza,” reads part of the letter.
