Tinofara Mutovongi, the founder of Ixar Mobile, a local cellphone repair company, will be training unemployed youths in cellphone repair.

The cellphone repair training masterclass will run for three weeks the 7th to the 31st of October 2019 at Batanai Gardens in Harare. The training is open to anyone with an interest in learning a life skill, no qualifications required.

This is will be a hands-on training class and as such there are limited places.

Speaking to ZimTrending, Mutovongi said the initiative was birthed out of a need to give back to the society by equipping the youths with some skills that can enable them to earn a living.

He said, ‘Unemployment amongst the youths is over 90% and coupled with the rising costs of living this makes it very difficult for them to cope. That’s why you find some of them resorting to drug abuse and theft. Our initiative is thus meant to tackle this in our own small way by giving the youths an option that can help them generate income and contribute towards their family’s upkeep’.

Mutovongi emphasized the entrepreneurial aspect of the training.

‘Our masterclass will not only focus on cellphone repairs but will also equip attendees with some entrepreneurial skills. We want to teach them that the days of waiting to be employed are over and now is the time to create employment for others’, he added.

To help push the attendees to produce results Mutovongi said that there will be a USD$1000 challenge.

‘In this challenge, we are going to push and equip our trainees to at least be able to make USD$1000 in revenue six months after that training’.

Some of the concepts that will be covered in the training include;

  • Making a career out of the cellphone repair business
  • Understanding being self-employed
  • Screen refurbishment
  • Software Troubleshooting
  • Micro Soldering

Certification will be awarded to successful attendees after the training.
